FAQ: LIVE WORKSHOPS & LEARN AS YOU GO
What technical requirements are needed to participate?
You will need to be on a computer with a stable internet connection to participate fully in the exercises that will be given to you. Viewing on an ipad or iphone will be challenging to participate fully. Please plan accordingly to be on a laptop or desktop computer.
Will there be a lunch break provided in the live workshop?
There will be a one hour lunch break from 12:30-1:30pm for each workshop. In addition there will be a 5-10 minute break every hour to avoid screen fatigue.
Will I get a recording of the live virtual workshop?
Replays will not be provided; however, you will have access to all the materials, modules and resources inside the learning portal which will have all the same content pre-recorded.
How long is the online portal available for?
You will have access to the learning portal and course modules through December 31st, 2022. The resource center toolkit will be accessible through NYFA for you to access indefinitely after December 31st, 2022.
What if I can’t attend the live workshops this Summer?
For those who can’t attend the live workshop options, we encourage you to learn at your own pace through the online learning portal. If you’d prefer live instruction, we also plan to announce more live online workshops in the Fall. Stay tuned for more information!
I want to take the “go at your own pace” option–how long will it take me to complete?
It’s estimated to take five hours to complete workshop one and five hours to complete workshop two. The only thing to keep in mind is that the deadline to apply for the award is August 31st, 2022, so we encourage you to complete workshop one and two with enough time to prepare your grant application if you want to apply for the award.
What if I have a basic understanding already? Do I still need to take Workshop One?
We recommend that you take workshop one even if you already know the basics. The way the information is taught helps unify the curriculum and core concepts presented in workshop two. The online learning portal will have additional optional modules that have intermediate and advanced concepts.
FAQ: NFT AWARD PROGRAM FOR ARTISTS
What do award winners receive?
Award winners will receive a $500 artist fee to have an existing work minted as an NFT (costs for minting the NFTS, such as gas fees and carbon offset costs will be covered in addition to the $500 artist payment). Winners will have their NFT included in an NYC Public Art Installation and Metaverse Exhibition in December 2022. There will also be a dedicated technologist paired with the artist to help them mint their NFT and export files for exhibition.
Who is eligible for the award program?
NYC based artists across all disciplines and mediums (Including, but not limited to: Performing Artists, Visual Artists, Filmmakers, Musicians, Designers & Writers) who have completed both workshops are eligible to apply for the award. Preference will be given to Mature Artists, as well as those who identify as LBGTQ, BIPOC or Woman-Identifying. For the purposes of this award, mature artists are defined as over 45 years of age.
How do I apply for the award?
After completing both workshops, NYC-based artists will be invited to apply for the award. The application link, along with more details, will be provided at that time.
Why do I have to attend the workshop to apply for the award?
The information in workshop one and two will prepare you for applying for the award and help you have a foundational understanding of what NFTs are and how they can be applied to the arts.
Do I need to know how to make an NFT to apply for the award?
You will learn how to make an NFT in workshop two. Hands on technical support will be provided to all award winners.
When is the deadline to apply for the award?
Applications will be due by August 31st, 2022. If you are choosing the "go at your own pace option" we recommend that you aim to complete workshop two by August 1st so that you have time to complete your grant application.
